Embrace the Rain

Image
Gray skies blanket the earth with your embrace I lean into the mist, feeling splashes on my skin I forgot how to feel the world, but your  touch reminds me I am alive and I feel the storms inside you. Touch me the way that sunshine souls cannot

Hey You

Image
I saw you in the palm of my hand Your life in the background Carefully curated to sell your soul We meet, but do we see? Too busy looking down To notice The beautiful details Of reality

The Greatest Love

Image
I loved you years ago You comforted me in the darkness As the world revealed itself to me   You were everything that I ever wanted One day, gone I tried to replace you, but without you I could not love another I found you again I built a fort blanketed in rediscovered love Inside I became ever giving, ever accepting, ever expanding  Join me in the fort We are safe here  Flashlights glowing undercover Revealing our faces, our truths, our hearts No judgment, no dishonesty, no selfish gains Giving love only yields more love

The Rain

Image
The rain smelled like him, earthy and fresh  When she closed her eyes she saw them entwined, their scents blending into a tiny biome The rain would take her to that moment instantly She continued with her day, but with a smile on her face Remembering that unexpected storm

The Modern Fate of Creativity

Image
In my efforts to organize, I found a poem that I wrote when I was 12 years old. People ask me all the time when I became interested in writing. From the moment that I learned written communication, I have had a desire to write my thoughts into the world. I was a brooding, serious child. Now that I am a brooding serious adult. Humans have always been the utmost in creativity With canvas and paint, we discovered the arts Athletics with our strength and endurance Using words and rhythm we gave the world song We studied and experimented for science and made places for the sick We found order to create governments But, what do we create with missiles, egos, and enemies?

Rainbow

Image
You stepped out of the darkness of your past.  You knew that you were better than the job you had. You were better than the love who dimmed your light. You were better than you ever realized. Let me take your umbrella, the storms have passed. Look outside, your rainbow awaits.

Empty

Image
This entry from fanstory.com was for a poem about loneliness. I would not change a thing about getting divorced. However, after nearly half of my life spent with a partner, it is an adjustment to look over to the other side of the bed night after night and find it no longer occupied..... Busy days Out living my new life New work, new friends, new experiences It’s so much better now that you’re gone   When I get home The house is quiet Your shoes remain by the door The bed is still… EMPTY

Sonnet for Sylvia Plath

Image
Today is the birthday of Sylvia Plath. Hey Google, thanks for reminding me! Now can you please play the song I have asked for the last three times?      Sylvia was ahead of her time and she gave the world a brilliance that was extinguished by depression by the time she turned 30. It is an unfortunate truth that the people with the most to offer the world are often crippled by it. I have seen mental illness destroy the most beautiful humans that I know. I send love and light to all who face these challenges. I also send the same to all those impacted by loved ones struggling with mental illness. National suicide prevention hotline   1-800-273-8255.        Oh, Sylvia, I understand you well You merely felt what we all feel in life; Walked through the world in a personal Hell You tried so many times to end your strife; Sleepless nights, thoughts tormenting heart and mind A genius beauty whose light oh did glow; The dar...

Take it All

Image
If I love you, am I willing to give you all that I have? Should you ask for that? Will you take away my identity, my youth, my dreams, my money, my life? I gave them to you until I was was left empty. Would you ever have stopped? Is that what love is? A parasite in the soul?   Life without love leaves me restored. New love...... fill my soul until I can never be empty again

Rose Petals 2019

Image
Photo by Akshar Dave from Pexels   Last autumn one rose bloomed to remind me in the spring That love would be found again When spring arrived, I gave my roses to you  buds of anticipation, all thorns removed   When they lost their bloom, I gave you more until I had nothing more to give  No rose blooms this year You found your garden I brace myself for the long winter

Karma

Image
Listening to your heartbeat,  embracing in your bed,  talking about our future Not forever, but a little longer Now you pretend it never happened You replace me but you don't tell me No kind words about our time together Nearly a year, lost to her "Hola," you say with pity, but no sincerity Will you check on me like you would a friend? No, you are too obsessed with her You do tell me how happy you are with your choice Thank you, I must not be hurting enough  On your value scale, I am disposable  Throw me away It's not that you "didn't love me" it's that you "didn't love me" thoughtlessly  It's your turn now Welcome to the trash pile

Ice Queen

Image
Blow, blow, thou winter wind" Shakespeare Your eyes do not see me The flames extinguished, leaving only ice I desired your warmth You gave me no shelter Your words a storm within me Obscuring all sight No thaw shall come  My heart is Winter

The Dress

Image
I stand before my closet So many choices Let me find the perfect dress For my less than perfect life Make me feel vibrant and special when I don't Make me feel confident and loved when I'm not Give me the strength to make it through my day Wrap me in color and softness That glides over me like a hug Covering me with radiance Wishing it could sink into me

Stay

Image
TICK TICK TICK the clock echoes in my ears Time chases me out of your arms You ask me to leave What happens if I stay? Wrapped in your warm embrace Smelling the soap on your skin Hearing your heart beat against my ear How will I know when I have found joy? When you want me to stay in your arms And the clock no longer matters

Together

Image
This is a former entry from fanstory.com in "sweet and light" poetry category Say hi, talk to me  Your clever words intrigue me Like no other could I see the brilliance in you Take my hand Let’s take the first step Together Kiss me, look into my eyes Your heart has captured me Like no other could I see the sweetness in you Take my hand Let’s run towards that better life Together

My Eyes

Image
I close my eyes Pretending that you love me Finally I can feel But when I open my eyes I realize None of it was real

Snowflake

Image
Photo by  Egor Kamelev  from  Pexels Unique snowflake Dancing gracefully through the sky For a sparkling moment in time Caught by the most observant one Who recognizes your beauty and rarity Until you fall onto the frozen ground To melt away Among all the others

That Look

Image
Photo by Dmitry Ratushny on Unsplash   I seek your eyes as we embrace I know that look It says love me and do not hurt me No façade to protect ourselves As emotion flows between us I have seen that look before A moment in time that went unanswered Is this real or imagined? The walls are back in place Truth, hidden by fear

The Perpetual Party

Image
Photo by freestocks on Unsplash   Hi. This was an entry from last year for a 75-word flash fiction contest. Sometimes you don't need many words to convey the message.            All the best people were at this party.            I saw his Rolex and witnessed his charismatic charm. I should have what he had. I deserved it. Didn't I? Suddenly, his watch was on my hand. A group of interested guests stood next to me, engaged. I don't know how, but I had his life.      I scanned the crowd. The woman in the corner really had everything. If only I could trade up again, and again.

Without

Image
Photo by Engin Akyurt from Pexels  This world without love A world in which I stumble Still seeking, hopeful but finally, accepting Love will not be found I must live without

Look

Image
Photo by mari lezhava on Unsplash  Look, but why do you not see? It is not in the place that you are or the places you will go Not in the things you consume  or with those you love It can only be found within LOOK

The Loneliest Day

Image
Photo by Wayne Evans from Pexels I watch the neighbor's kids playing Great kids, but not my own My hand instinctively goes to my stomach The womb beneath forever empty  My child will never breathe  As I hold them close Nobody told me  Mother's Day is the loneliest day of the year

Pictures of You

Image
Photo by sarandy westfall on Unsplash  No machine nor magic blue box I time travel with my mind  I am here with you again Will you tell me that you love me after all?    Eyes shut You are kissing me awake for the first time Blink Candles flicker as we embrace on that summer night  Blink Many images and I feel you once again But you choose her You always choose her Blink I am in alone in my bed All evidence of you, pictures in my mind
